Turn it up at Reading please

INSTEAD of it beingness a festivity of the kings of rock it turned into a
coronation of indie pop princes.

The Reading and Leeds festivals are known as the loudest and most fierce on
the summer racing circuit.

And American heavyweights Metallica and Rage Against The Machine were the
bills big-hitters.

But the largest problem on the Reading site was the primary stage was simply not
loud enough to feel the full power of their puncher.

In fact, it was the barge bands on the louder, enclosed NME/Radio 1 tent who
hit the perfect spot.

US legends Metallica and Rage were supposed to kill off their headlining
nights with a final late blow to the ears of the crowd.

Visually both looked adequately terrifying right down to Rages Guantanamo
Bay outfits simply the effectual simply wasnt tough enough.

If 2 men moaning about the credit cranch behind you begins to drown out the
force of Rage frontman Zack De La Rocha, then you cognise something isnt quite
right.

Rigours

But over on the second stage the vigour of youth was triumphing over the
rigours of rock and roll.

Indie teens Cajun Dance Party are fresh from finishing their A-Levels, only
have clearly been hard at puzzle out in the studio, excessively.

The live delivery of their ornate indie pop has now bloomed. Brilliant tunes
from their debut album, such as title-track The Colourful Life and Amylase,
shone to light up the tent.

Another highlight in that arena was The Last Shadow Puppets.

Ironically, they experienced sound problems during their opening number. But
that was shortly sorted and Alex Turners side visualize with sharp suits, a
red velvet background and orchestra was a joyfulness.

But these highlights were a bit high and light for Reading traditionalists. If
rock is to maintain the loudest voice here, they will receive to turn the
volume up.

When Oneida's Pat Sullivan left the band in 2001, he wanted to try out something a small more country. He formed Crazee & Heaven, simply it was a short stint. Sullivan wasn't defeated, however; he gathered some of his Crazee & Heaven bandmates -- drummer Will Dyar, bassist Jesse Barnes, and fiddle player Claudia Mogel -- to frame Oakley Hall. Podunks songwriter Steve Tesh, banjo histrion Fred Wallace, vocalizer Leah Blessoff, and guitarist Ed Kurz completed the batting order by 2002. A class subsequently, with a smattering of East Coast tours and a self-released EP under their belt, Oakley Hall issued their self-titled full-length for Bulb. Kurz besides left the band and was replaced by Ted Southern. Around this fourth dimension, Sullivan endured a irritating wound to his right hand spell working on a building site, simply thankfully, he just lost one finger, non his ability to play. Dyar, Tesh, and Southern finally exited Oakley Hall by 2003, with Blessof following in 2004. With a new batting order consisting of Sullivan, Greg Anderson (drums), Wallace immediately on electric guitar, Mogel, and vocalizer Rachel Cox (the Podunks, the Ospreys), Oakley Hall began crafting a tighter, galvanizing countrified sound. The conclusion resultant was deuce records: Irregular Guessing was released on Amish in early 2006; Gypsum Strings arrived that June. The following year, later touring with Bright Eyes and sign language to Merge, the band issued their fourth full-length, I'll Follow You, short subsequently which drummer Anderson left to focus on former projects and was replaced by Pat Wood.

T.I. -- Who Says He's 'Still Got It' -- Plays 90 Minutes Of Hits At Washington, D.C., Concert

Since leaving house arrest earlier this year, T.I.'s public appearances have been at a premium. He's traveled all across the country talking to children as part of his community service duties, as well as promoting his upcoming LP, Paper Trail, which is due August 12.

But Friday night in Washington, D.C., was the first time the MC has gotten onstage and performed since his arrest on gun charges in October of last year. Tip rolled out 24 songs from his catalog and rocked the enthusiastic crowd at the Chocolate City's popular nightspot Love for 90 minutes, well into the early hours of Saturday morning.

With DJ Drama playing the records and his Grand Hustle family there to help spur him on, Tip started with "Help Is Coming," "Top Back" and "Rubber Band Man." He followed that with a three-point shot for the ladies, with "Let's Get Away," "Freak Through" and "Why You Wanna."

"He still got it," Tip said with a smile, referring to himself. "I can go all night with all the hits I got."

He performed one song, "No Matter What," from Paper Trail (he talked with MTV News about the album on the red carpet at the MTV Movie Awards last week; he also recently signed a three-picture deal with Screen Gems), and reprised his recent appearances on remixes from Usher ("Love in This Club") and Lupe Fiasco ("Superstar"). He also paid tribute to the late Pimp C on the UGK-featured "Front Back" and to Tupac Shakur on "My Life."

Later in the set, he also delivered a promise to the crowd. "As long as I got a ounce of breath left in my body, I'mma be right here doing what I do," he said, before finishing off the set with "Big Sh-- Poppin' " and "What You Know."

Singer J. Holiday, former BET host Big Tigger, Denver Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin and the Washington Redskins' Clinton Portis were among the celebrities in attendance.

In the footage, the Back To Black star is shown singing, "Blacks, Pakis, Gooks and Nips, Gooks and Nips! And deaf and dumb and blind and gay!", while Fielder-Civil tells her and a pal, known only as Sarah, that they aren't being filmed.

The star is also allegedly shown smoking what appears to be drugs through a pipe.

And now, Winehouse has told paparazzi photographers waiting outside her London home on Sunday (08Jun08) that she is sorry for the video blunder and any offense it may have caused, according to celebrity blogger Perez Hilton.

It isn't the first time Winehouse has been caught in a compromising position on film; earlier this year (08) the star was filmed allegedly taking a cocktail of illegal drugs and was even filmed in a bizarre video with British rocker Pete Doherty talking to a baby mouse.

Few stars of the '60s have reinvented themselves as successfully as Marianne Faithfull. Coaxed into a telling career by Rolling Stones handler Andrew Loog Oldham in 1964, she had a big hit in both Britain and the U.S. with her debut unmarried, the Jagger/Richards writing "As Tears Go By" (which prefaced the Stones' possess translation by a full class). Considerably more successful in her native land than the States, she had a series of hits in the mid-'60s that place her high, fragile voice against delicate orchestral pop arrangements: "Summertime Night," "This Little Bird," and Jackie De Shannon's "Come and Stay with Me." Not a songwriter at the start of her career, she owes more of her fame as a '60s image to her extraordinary dish and her long-running romance with Mick Jagger, although she offered a appreciation of things to come with her compelling 1969 single "Sis Morphine," which she co-wrote (and which the Stones released themselves on Sticky Fingers afterward).

In the '70s, Faithfull split up with Jagger, developed a serious drug habit, and recorded seldom, with by and large dreary results. This occurred until recent 1979, when she pulled off an astonishing comeback with Broken English. Displaying a croaking, thinning voice that had lowered a full musical octave since the mid-'60s, Faithfull had as well begun to write much of her possess material, and addressed sex and desperation with wrenching realism. After allowing herself to be framed as a coy chanteuse by songwriters and arrangers passim most of her career, Faithfull had set up her own voice, and short sounded more relevant and contemporary than most of the stars she had rubbed shoulders with in the '60s. Faithfull's recordings in the '80s and '90s were sporadic and temperamental, merely in the main quite interesting; Strange Weather, a Hal Willner-produced 1987 appeal of standards and contemporary compositions that spanned several decades for its sources, was her superlative wallow of the decennary. In 1994, she published her self-titled autobiography; the biography As Tears Go By by Mark Hodkinson is an documentary and thorough report of her life and multiplication.

Faithfull returned to transcription in 2002 with Kissin' Time, an eclecticist ingathering of songwriting collaborations with Beck, Damon Albarn, Billy Corgan, Jon Brion, and Jarvis Cocker among others. In 2004, Before the Poison was released in the U.K., devising its entrance into the U.S. market in early 2005. This record album continued in the vein of its herald, with songwriting and production contributions from PJ Harvey, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Brion, and Albarn, but with far more consistent results.
